POLICE are investigating a brutal assault in Northbridge in which a man had his neck broken leaving him needing spinal surgery.

Just before 2am on Sunday May 19 the victim, a 36–year-old man, was with a friend on the corner of Francis and Lake Street.

The victim left his friend and went to find a toilet.

When he failed to return, his friend went to look for him and found the victim bleeding heavily from a head wound, near the rear entrance driveway to a bar off Francis Street.

The victim believes a tall, tan skinned male wearing a yellow and red shirt with dark pants was also in the same area at this time and may be able to assist police with their inquiries.

One of the victim’s x-rays.

The victim suffered a broken neck and a fractured skull requiring urgent medical intervention via invasive surgery on his neck to prevent damage to his spinal cord.
