The Salaries and Allowances Tribunal last week released its review of council and mayor allowances, increasing the maximum annual mayor payments from $60,000 to $85,000, with the Lord Mayor’s allowance going up to $130,000.
The maximum council and committee meeting fees went from $14,000 to $45,000 for mayors and from $7000 to $30,000 for councillors, resulting in the Lord Mayor’s allowance going up to $175,000.
The review also places each council into four bands, which determine the maximum payments allowable.
The changes take effect on July 1.
