IT’S only been a year since North Perth’s James Young took over Wild Swan Distillery in the Swan Valley and already he is getting international recognition.
The distiller just returned from the Hong Kong International Wine and Spirit Competition where his gins and vodkas were awarded four medals, including a gold for his flagship 18+27 Gin.
Several Swan Valley producers attended but Mr Young was the only one to take home a medal this year.
“I was thrilled, it was just magic, especially because it was all new products that were awarded,” Mr Young said.
“Just to get that vindication that we’re headed in the right direction is really helpful.”
Impressively, all four award-winning products were developed in the last 12 months.
Wild Swan Distillery might be the second smallest commercial distillery in the country but Mr Young has big plans for the business.
After Christmas, the distillery will be officially rebranded as Old Young’s.
The tasting room at the distillery is also finishing renovations in time for a relaunch of the brand.
“It’s great to have these awards showing that a small distillery from the heart of the Swan Valley can make great products capable of matching the best the world can produce,” he said.
