Mitchell Freeway chaos as truck hits Hay Street overpass

THE Mitchell Freeway is reduced to a single lane southbound at the Hay Street overpass, where a truck has smashed into the bridge.

Debris is strewn across the centre lanes following the accident, which happened just after 10am, and a piece of supporting steel can be seen dangling from the bridge.

The truck was believed to be transporting a crane.

Traffic is backed up to Whitfords Avenue.

Main Roads is advising motorists to seek an alternative route.
