AN intersection in Mt Lawley is one of the most dangerous in WA, according to an RAC report.
The Beaufort and Walcott streets intersection is on the RAC’s 12-month Risky Roads campaign scorecard of the State’s most dangerous roads.
Vincent Mayor John Carey said he was not surprised the intersection, which is difficult to turn right from, made it onto the list as he had received numerous complaints about it from residents.
“It would be logical to slow the speed limit down on that street – I’d like to see the speed reduced to 40km all the time,” Mr Carey said.
“Even buses come hurtling down that street.
“It is a transit route… but it should also be people-friendly.”
There are no plans to improve the intersection at present.
RAC corporate affairs general manager Will Golsby said the scorecard looked at progress made on roads nominated by the community as the State’s riskiest roads 12 months ago.
“We acknowledge and welcome the construction under way on some of the roads identified, but we’re extremely concerned that that work on the rest has not commenced,” Mr Golsby said.
“These results highlight the urgent need for the State Government to deliver more funding, but the current State Budget only confirms a reduction in spending.
“Construction on these dangerous roads is critical because the road fatality rate in WA is too high.”
