Mt Lawley in trouble as Gosnells close in on victory

Julian WrightEastern Reporter

MT Lawley’s poor start to the season has gone from bad to worse, as Gosnells piled on the pain in search of a first innings victory in their Round Five Premier Cricket match at Breckler Park on Saturday.

The home side slumped to 5-51 at the close of play in reply to Gosnells’ below par 193 from less than 70 overs earlier in the day.

The Hawks began the game in terrific fashion, having Gosnells in real trouble at 6-129, led by opening bowler Ian Fishman.

This was largely due to a collective bowling effort with Callum Taylor (2-28), Corry Verco (2-28) and Fishman (2-12) all taking multiple wickets in the process.

Some late-order hitting pushed Gosnells to a decent total of 193.

At the close of play Mt Lawley were still a further 142 runs behind the in-form team, with the top order stumbling.

James Newnham could only manage nine, while Corry Verco remains 4n.o. as his side chases a memorable victory.
