Mt Lawley: local businesses help upgrade housing support facility

Julian WrightEastern Reporter

SEVENTY accountants and financial advisors swapped their calculators for paintbrushes and gardening tools for a day to help upgrade a housing support facility.

Staff from HLB Mann Judd recently took part in the company’s corporate social responsibility program for a day, doing some handy-work at the Yes! Housing Centre in Mt Lawley.

The centre, operated by Anglicare WA, enables young people to establish themselves in their new community by helping develop their independent living and tenancy skills.

The volunteers completed several duties including painting, gardening, general cleaning and assembling furniture to give the centre a facelift.

Anglicare WA North Metro Regional Manager Philippa Maczkowiak said the support was “heart-warming.”

“Many of the young people in our housing program are young parents, trying to move on with their lives out of homelessness and into independence,” she said.

“Now they have a beautiful, family friendly facility to house them while they make that transition.”

HLB Mann Judd managing partner Norman Neill said he was pleased with the team’s efforts.
