Jessica WarrinerEastern Reporter

THERE’S a new principal in the schoolyard at Perth College.

Helen Aguiar took over the position in January from Jenny Ethell, who after 16 years moved to regional New South Wales to lead Oxley College.

Ms Aguiar was previously vice principal of All Saints’ College in Bull Creek, and is currently undertaking Doctorate studies exploring the factors that influence the wellbeing of newly employed teachers.

The principal said she felt “so lucky” to be part of Perth College.

“It’s been a fantastic start to the year,” she said.

“The staff were so proud getting all their classrooms ready, I was getting all these invitations to see them.”

Ms Aguiar said she was looking forward to working with the staff, families and alumni and being part of the school community.

Chair of School Council Andrea Burns said upon Ms Aguiar’s appointment that she was the ideal candidate to ensure the school was recognised as a leader in girls’ education and a pioneer in positive psychology.

“Not only is she a highly-regarded leader with a passion for education, she is also a warm, engaging personality with a strong intellect – all the key traits that place the future of Perth College in good hands,” Ms Burns said.
