Mt Lawley PS alumni organising reunion with a twist

Julian WrightEastern Reporter

FORMER Mt Lawley students are planning a reunion with a twist.

Usually people try to track down old high school buddies to commemorate their 12th year of education, but Greg Scannell, Rolf Perey and Debbie Swartz (nee Ulmer) are seeking their Mt Lawley Primary School Year 7 classmates from 1968.

Mrs Swartz said this year marked everyone’s 60th birthday.

“High school reunions are commonplace these days, but it is rare to be able to summon 40-odd people from the earliest years of primary school,” she said.

“The idea came about when a few past class mates ran into each other and decided it would be a more unique idea to try and gather as many other students from those very young years.

“It then became a matter of forming a small committee to meet and look at class photos and try to remember everyone’s names and then set about trying to make contact.”

Mrs Swartz said about 40 of 70 had been contacted about the reunion, but hoped to get more.

Anyone who finished Year 7 at Mt Lawley Primary School in 1968 can contact Greg Scannell on 0409 080 554, Rolf Perey on 0458 010 880 or Debbie Swartz 0418 951 998.

The reunion will be at the school on October 23 from 1pm to 4pm.

Mt Lawley Primary School was destroyed by a deliberately lit fire in July, 2012, the same year it celebrated its centenary.

The school re-opened in February 2015.
