Naidoc Week launched at Elizabeth Quay

ELIZABETH QUAY hosted the official launch of Naidoc Week on Sunday.

The Opening Ceremony showcases local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, performers and dancers throughout the day.

Welcome to Country was performed by Noongar Elders, and Aboriginal dance groups as well as a flag-raising ceremony, community stalls, children’s activities, an Elder marquee, and performances throughout the day by local bands, singers and DJ.

NAIDOC week celebrations continue tomorrow, Wednesday July 6, with free family entertainment in the Perth Cultural Centre, running from 11am until 3pm.

It will be an afternoon of free entertainment in the James Street Amphitheatre with performances by Jake and the Cowboys and a live broadcast by Noongar Radio.

Olman Walley, an acclaimed Aboriginal dancer and digeridoo player, will MC the event and open the celebrations with a traditional Welcome to Country.

The event will be broadcast live on 100.9FM – Noongar Radio.

These events are supported by the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority and organised by Naidoc Perth.
