Neighbour Day: City of Vincent encouraging residents to say g’day to neighbours

Julian WrightEastern Reporter

CITY of Vincent is encouraging residents to pop next door and get to know their neighbours this weekend.

The focus on this year’s Neighbour Day on Sunday, March 26 is getting to know the elderly in the community who may be isolated.

Mayor Emma Cole said the format had changed slightly since last year’s similar event held in Oxford Reserve.

“My neighbours Fay and Mary are great examples of active seniors and people connecting with others in the community; Fay gets out and about at the park and shops and Mary is in her late 80s, plays bridge three times a week and is an avid gardener,” she said.

“But there are seniors that don’t get out and about because they have mobility issues or they don’t have family.”

Ms Cole said residents should look out for a G’Day Neighbour Connection Card that can be filled out and exchanged with neighbours.

“It is thanks for being a good neighbour or an invitation to come over for a cuppa or a barbecue,” she said.
