Netball: West Coast Fever and UWA sign unprecedented three-year major partnership deal

Giovanni TorreEastern Reporter

WEST Coast Fever and UWA have signed a three-year major partnership deal, the first between an elite female sporting team and tertiary education institution.

UWA’s support of Fever will extend beyond the playing and training court, with the partnership including work placement opportunities for students.

UWA students and staff will also be offered volunteering opportunities at Netball WA and West Coast Fever events.

Netball WA chief executive Simon Taylor said he was delighted with the partnership.

“This is a landmark day for our club,” Mr Taylor said.

“The UWA brand is synonymous with excellence and success, both here in the west as well as on the national and international stage, and is an institution we are incredibly proud to partner with.

“This partnership represents the type of truly integrated relationship our club prides itself on establishing within the West Australian community and I have no doubt that UWA will provide Fever with a competitive edge, both on and off the court, as we enter the Super Netball era.”

UWA deputy vice-chancellor Kent Anderson said the partnership would offer valuable opportunities for UWA staff, students and alumni.

“The university is excited about this unique partnership with one of WA’s top sporting clubs, which will provide enormous benefits to UWA and the wider WA community,” Professor Anderson said.

“UWA is particularly proud to be supporting one of our elite women’s sporting organisations and helping raise the profile of women’s sport on a national scale.”

West Coast Fever-branded apparel, including playing dress, training gear and court signage, will feature the UWA logo.

The club’s 2017 Super Netball season begins on February 19 against the Adelaide Thunderbirds in Adelaide.
