New Perth CBD Blood Centre Opens to Save Lives

Emily BakerEastern Reporter

THE Red Cross Blood Service hopes the opening of the new Perth CBD Blood Donor Centre will help fill some of WA’s 2600 empty appointments over the next two weeks.

The new donor centre officially opened last week, at a time of seasonal and serious need for the Blood Service.

Spokeswoman Jessica Willet said the opening came in the nick of time to help combat the cold and flu season.

“With so many people cancelling appointments every week due to illness, we need to fill as many of the 2600 empty appointments as possible to ensure we have enough blood for patients in need,” Ms Willet said.

Up to 93,000 lives will be saved every year with the blood donated at the new Perth centre.

Ms Willet said with the new centre’s more central location and state-of-the-art facilities, there was never a better time for people to roll up their sleeves.

“The new Perth CBD Blood Donor Centre will collect 31,000 donations over the next 12 months, and as every donation helps to save as many as three lives,” she said.

“An hour of your time can mean a lifetime to a young child, mother, grandfather or neighbour in need.”

The new Perth CBD Blood Donor Centre is located at Level 1, 140 William St Perth, having moved from 290 Wellington St.

Another new donor centre located in Midland will also open in 2015.
