As well as new furniture and shelving, a big-screen TV, Xbox 360 console, and stereo with wireless headphones, it now features a vibrant mural created by local spray-can artist Drew Straker.

‘The artwork has lovely characters ” elephants, tigers, ducks, penguins and Drew’s two dogs,’ library manager Elizabeth Scott said.

‘Down the bottom there are lots of little creatures that the smaller children will relate to and throughout the whole space there are different images you can see, so it’s attractive for all age groups.’

Elizabeth and her team hope the revived area will encourage young readers to stay longer in the library and take pleasure in the facilities.
