New hope for Leederville Farmers Market

THE City of Vincent hopes to resurrect the defunct Leederville Farmers Market.

Expressions of interest to operate and manage the facility are now open for the market that was established in 2013 but closed last year.

Expressions of interest close on August 10 and more information is available from place manager David Doy on david.doy@vincent.wa.|gov.au or 9273 6041.

It was announced on the market’s Facebook page on September 10 that it would not be re-opening, citing limiting lease terms and conditions and a competing 180-stall Rokeby Road market in Subiaco.

“Although our planning application passed at the council meeting, the terms and conditions of the lease agreement are not those that will allow us to prosper and survive into the future,” the post read.

The resurrected market will be at Leederville town centre, next to the Oxford Street Reserve, with the City aiming to make it the “highest quality farmers market in Western Australia.”
