AFTER a three-month search, Scitech has found its new chief executive, Deb Hancock.

Ms Hancock, who spent five years as Cairns Chamber of Commerce CEO, will begin in the top role at Scitech on September 18.

Former CEO Alan Brien, who led the executive team for 17 years, announced in May he would retire.

Ms Hancock said she was keen to oversee the relocation of the science education centre.

“What attracted me to the role was being on the crest of a wave and looking into the future; I think there are so many opportunities to grow in the future,” she said.

“It is also an opportunity to work with an amazing team.”

“One of the most important things will be engaging with staff, the board and community about moving Scitech, there is a lot of interest in it.”

Ms Hancock, who is originally from Brisbane, said she had family in Perth.

The facility, which turns 29 on August 13, will move from West Perth close to the new $428 million museum in the Perth Cultural Centre by 2021.
