New wave of fake $50 notes hits Northbridge and Perth warns police

Jon BassettEastern Reporter

POLICE are on the hunt for counterfeiters after a new spate of fake $50 notes hit Northbridge and Perth bars and nightclubs in the past fortnight.

“The thing to looks for is the clear panel on the notes can rub off,” Sergeant Warren Ameduri said.

The latest spate follows the arrest of two men in February who allegedly had fake $50 notes that had Chinese writing on them.

Sgt Ameduri said the latest notes were also being used at shops when staff were busy, and businesses must check the notes they handle.

Earlier this month, a man was captured on CCTV possibly using fakes notes at the Universal Bar in William Street, Northbridge.

Sgt Ameduri said the man may be able to assist police with inquiries into the fake notes.
