Nightlife culture shift eases crime

Sen Sgt Hazell said the culture of Perth had changed a lot in the last three years and the entertainment precinct now attracted a more diverse mix of people.

‘Northbridge is no longer the place where yobbos come to get drunk and get locked up by the coppers,’ he said.

‘The office workers are staying after work and having events in the CBD rather than jumping on a bus, going home and going to their local.’

Sen Sgt Hazell said officers were now busy every day of the week instead of just Friday and Saturday but overall crime, specifically assaults and disorderly conduct incidents, in the CBD and Northbridge were down.
