ANIMAL lovers listen up: Perth is about to get its very own cat café.

Founders Chris Mewburn and Terps Platritis said The Cat Cafe Perth received 3900 likes on Facebook just 24 hours after they launched the page on Monday.

It now has more than 6000 likes and has been tweeted, blogged and posted to reddit.

"At first we planned to get it up before Christmas, but after this amazing response we now want to open much sooner," Mr Mewburn said.

"We are both architects, so we're already thinking about the design " people have told us they want tunnels going through the walls."

Mr Mewburn said he would launch a 30-day Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign on May 11 at 7pm to "bring the cat cafe to life."

"We need at least $150,000 to make this happen," he said.

"We want give the rescue kitties of Perth an awesome place to roam freely and have lots of fun together, inside a great hangout for people to have some coffee, and to join in the fun.

"We have already had a few cat shelters contacting us who are really interested in getting involved. The tagline for the café is going to be "The happiest place in Perth". We're stealing a little bit from Disney."

Self-confessed "crazy cat person" Mr Mewburn said the most suggested locations were Oxford Street in Leederville, Beaufort Street in Mt Hawthorn and Subiaco's Rokeby Road.

Themed cat cafes started in Japan about 10 years ago, with patrons all over the world enjoying a cup of coffee while making feline friends ever since.

Australia's first cat café opened in Melbourne last July.
