An online petition is calling on the City of Perth to cancel the Skyworks and instead donate the money to assist victims of the recent South-West bushfire.
The petition also warns that using fireworks could risk starting more fires.
Ms Scaffidi said most of the expenses associated with Skyworks were spent several months in advance of the event.
“Cancellation of the event at this late stage would therefore not result in significant savings to be re-allocated to the Lord Mayor’s Distress Relief Fund Waroona and Districts Fires Appeal,” she said.
“The 2016 Skyworks will provide some levity for the community during what has been a truly distressing period. The City of Perth is working with our Skyworks partners to facilitate the collection of funds at the event to support all of those impacted.”
