North Perth: Notorious intersection in line for upgrade

Jessica WarrinerEastern Reporter

WORK is underway on upgrading a notorious North Perth intersection.

The Wanneroo Road, Green Street and Walcott Street intersection has been allocated $2.5m through the state’s Road Trauma Trust Account.

New safety features will include the removal of the right-turn filter movements for vehicles turning right from Charles Street into Walcott Street and Green Street, and the addition of a dedicated green arrow.

A traffic signal mast-arm will also be installed at Wiluna Street to improve signal visibility.

Premier Mark McGowan said the government’s $3.2b allocated to road upgrades across the state would create thousands of jobs, reduce congestion woes and improve safety.

“As a regular road user myself, often travelling close to a hundred kilometres a day, I know the real difference improved roads can make on the daily commute,” he said.

Mt Lawley MLA Simon Millman said the changes would help ease rat runs and free up local roads.

Early planning is also taking place for improvements at the intersection of Morley Drive and Wanneroo Road.
