Northbridge street artist paints CBD businesses

Julian WrightEastern Reporter

STREET artist Daek Williams has gone from painting his parents’ walls to painting portraits on CBD businesses.

“I used to paint the back of my parents’ house to practice,” he said.

“A lot of trial and error; I have a family that is very encouraging.”

Throughout the last 15 years, Mr Williams has been honing his art skills with aerosol and airbrushing and creating portraits and murals throughout Perth.

“I have a background in art but I didn’t study art,” he said.

“There’s no school for this kind of art. I started at time when street art became popular and I had a lot of peers who were really good so I learned from them.”

The Northbridge resident’s latest work, which took four days to complete, is on an exterior wall of the Inter-Continental Perth on Hay Street, which opens in October.

“The inspiration is actually one of the owners of the hotel,” Williams said.

“Her cat is in there, there is a bit about her charity, her family, the business and some nature.”
