Following the success of the first On-Road Cafe (ORC) trial in Leederville, Vincent Council is now encouraging all business owners to host an ORC adjacent to their premises.
On-Road Cafes consist of an outdoor seating area, lined by plants, that resemble a cafe feel, which take the place of parking spaces.
Last September, Vincent council approved a four-month trial, converting on-road parking spaces, into public areas.
Mayor Alannah MacTiernan said following the overwhelming success of the ORC trial in Leederville, the council was now offering the initiative to other town centres and shopping strips.
‘The On-Road Cafes will be placed temporarily at approved locations and will move between our urban villages,’ she said. ‘It’s one small way we can shake things up and keep the streetscape dynamic.’
After expressions of interest are received from the public, the suitability of each location will be evaluated and the council will make a decision at the end of August.
