Owner grooms team in health

The Guys Grooming owner said he recently calculated 61 lost hours of productivity due to sickness among his staff members.

This prompted Mr Ahern to sign up to the Diabetes WA health advisory service HealthSmart Solutions, aiming to educate his young workforce on healthy lifestyles.

‘Staff have already reported an increased awareness of the beneficial health habits to form and there has also been a decrease in the number of soft drinks and energy drinks consumed,’ he said.

‘These responses show it has made sense to invest in the health and general wellbeing of our employees and in turn improve productivity.’

The HealthSmart Solutions program aims to promote healthy lifestyles and eating in workplaces, with six businesses in Perth signed up in April and May.

Health Smart Solutions principal consultant Nick Nation said the best strategy focused on combining education with a supportive environment.

‘Type 2 diabetes in Australia is on the rise and workplaces provide a captive audience for our diabetes prevention programs,’ he said.

‘We have a dedicated team of health professionals working with businesses to improve the health of their employees, boost productivity and reduce the risk of chronic disease.’
