Parking punters to be treated to jazz in East Perth

Julian WrightEastern Reporter

EAST Perth motorists will be treated to some smooth jazz while they park on September 4.

The City of Perth’s Regal Place carpark, on the corner of Plain and Royal streets, will host the WA Youth Jazz Orchestra (WAYJO), who will perform for free for people entering and exiting.

The event is hosted by East Perth Community Safety Group and Activate Perth, which announced plans for the activation in April.

It will be part of a series of neighbourhood events in unexpected locations rolled out across the city in coming months.

Activate Perth executive chair Anne-Marie Ferguson said the new stadium ensured more patrons and the plan was to give them a pleasant surprise.

“With the advent of the Perth Stadium, this carpark will see more activity: to come for the footy and have someone playing the sax, we hope will surprise and delight,” she said.

WAYJO’s Mace Francis nominated the space after using it as part of his research for his thesis on acoustics.

The performance will take place from 5.30pm until 7pm.
