PERTH drinkers will have even more opportunities to get into the festive spirit with the State Government announcing today it would extend bottle shop opening hours.

Racing and Gaming minister Paul Papalia today welcomed the decision, by the Liquor Licensing director, to extend Sunday trading for bottle shops up to and including New Year’s Eve.

The move means metropolitan bottle shop owners can operate from 8am to 10pm on Sundays – including Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve – without applying for an extended trading permit.

“It gives consumers the flexibility during this busy time of year to purchase their liquor at a convenient time,” Mr Papalia said.

“The decision also reduces compliance and costs for many small businesses in this industry, giving them the freedom to trade in line with consumer demand.”

Regional bottle shops will be permitted to open from 10am to 10pm on Sundays during this time.
