A PERTH CBD cafe has got an idea brewing to get more customers through the door.

Seeing customer numbers take a hit due to more competition and surrounding business cutting back on employees, Voltage Espresso is offering $1 regular coffees on October 19.

Owner of the St Georges Terrace business Craig Rainbord said he hoped to celebrate being open for seven years in January.

“We have seen a lot more competition in the CBD and a lot less people coming here because mining downturn has affected the businesses in the complex we are in,” he said.

“Some are operating with 10 per cent of original staff numbers.

“People have said they have not seen the market this low before.

“It is like we get one new customer, we lose two more.”

Mr Rainbird said the perceived long winter also hurt the business.

“It is spring now but it is like a long winter and people are less inclined to go out for a hot drink in this weather,” he said.
