Jessica WarrinerEastern Reporter

SHOPPERS will be able to access free and discounted parking in Perth over the festive period.

City of Perth commissioners voted unanimously to approve four promotions during December and January at this week’s council meeting.

The promotions include 1000 free parking tickets to be handed out at random, cheaper all-day rates for selected CPP car parks, $5 Boxing Day parking and a flat rate to cover revellers throughout New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

Chair commissioner Eric Lumsden said the campaign had been expanded from 2017.

“This year’s promotion now includes the weekends, giving people more choice as to when they come in to Perth,” he said.

“This parking special allows the City to strategically support local business and retail.”

Commissioner Gaye McMath asked at the meeting whether the initiative for $10 parking from 6am to 9pm could be extended later to support food and beverage vendors.

City staff said this would be considered in future years.
