Perth crime: help needed to identify Wellington St store attackers

Caitlin TillerEastern Reporter

POLICE are seeking the public’s assistance to identify a man who assaulted and robbed a convenience store owner in Perth.

The store attendant (24) was working at the Wellington Street store at 6.30pm on Monday April 4 when a male entered the store.

“The attendant began to serve the man, who became aggressive before leaving the store,” a WA Police spokeswoman said.

“The offender then threw an item at the window of the store, causing the attendant to confront him.”

Footage of the attack on WA Police Facebook page showed the man removed his shirt and assaulted the store attendant before a second male also assaulted him.

The video showed up to 18 people who appeared outside the store, with 11 inside the shop at once.

“A large group of people then surrounded the victim, with the original offenders and others entering the store and taking items from the shelves,” the spokeswoman said.

“Items were also thrown at the attendant.”

The group dispersed and one person kicked the glass door while the attendant stood behind it, trying to close the door.

Anyone who can identify the people is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1300 333 000.
