PERTH Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi urged supporters on council to boycott other councillors, according to the Deputy Lord Mayor.
Cr James Limnios told the Guardian Express he has text messages on his mobile phone from Ms Scaffidi exhorting him not to communicate with councillors Reece Harley and Jemma Green.
The revelation emerged at Tuesday’s council meeting during discussion of Cr Green’s motions on measures to improve Perth Council’s transparency.
After Cr Green described the urgent motion of no confidence in Cr Limnios as an “ambush”, Ms Scaffidi suggested Cr Green had done the same with her motions.
Cr Green countered that she had endeavoured to discuss the subject of the motions “for two months” but had been “snubbed” by the Lord Mayor and others on council, a grievance Ms Scaffidi dismissed.
At the meeting, Cr Limnios asked, “Lord Mayor, when Cr Green was talking about your refusal to meet with her, why didn’t you tell the truth? You wanted to ban us from speaking to Cr Green – I have that in writing”.
Cr Green’s motions, which included calls for a dedicated transparency section on the City’s website, greater public access to the gift registry and annual returns and for all travel funded by third parties be taken to council for approval, were passed unanimously without debate.
Guardian Express has contacted Cr Green for comment.
