Perth: Man appears in court on Perth train station fire charge

DONALD James Ranger (34) will face Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court tomorrow on charges of setting fire to Perth Train Station last week.

Police charged Mr Ranger with criminal damage, burglary and destruction of property after he allegedly set fire to the building about 3am on February 21.

The fire caused about $500,000 of damage to the train station.

Transit officers at the scene arrested him after he broke into the building through a glass door and set documents on fire.

It is also alleged he was captured on CCTV minutes earlier, setting several bins on fire in the Perth Cultural Centre.

Police questioned Mr Ranger last Wednesday after he received medical treatment.

He came before Perth Magistrates Court the following day, where he was remanded in custody.
