PERTH MLA Eleni Evangel is getting free billboard space from City of Perth Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi.

The deal was raised in State Parliament today when Girraween MLA Margaret Quirk asked Local Government Minister Tony Simpson if his lack of updates on the Lord Mayor’s travel rorts case was connected to her endorsing Ms Evangel, and providing free advertising space for her on a building owned by Ms Scaffidi.

Ms Evangel said the space was donated and no money was exchanged.

“It was originally offered to Jeremy Quinn during the Federal campaign,” she said.

“Planning rules state that we cannot use public space for political adverts.

“As weeks go by I am sure we will see more signs go up.”

She said it was “normal practice”.

Mr Simpson said he was unaware Ms Scaffidi was providing free billboard space.

“The Lord Mayor’s personal operations have noting to do with me as the Minister,” he said.

“The case will be listed when it goes in front of a judge.

“It has nothing to do with me and rightly so.

“Ministers should not get involved in this process at all.

“It is in front of a judge and that process will go through the proper course.”
