Dr Pears said no educator or parent would argue against early identification of children who have learning delays or difficulties.

‘But often the answer is not medication,’ he said. ‘It is about raising awareness of the over prescription of ADHD medications and exploring the reasons certain behaviours appear.’ Dr Pears said that if a child’s environment facilitates maximum independent learning, then many of these behaviours cease.
