Perth museum launches competition to name blue whale skeleton

Staff WriterEastern Reporter

THE yet to be opened WA Museum in Perth is hosting a competition to name its blue whale skeleton.

In 2020, the 24-metre blue whale will take centre-stage in a new display at the museum.

Unfortunately, the name Whaley McWhaleface has been ruled out.

The museum is asking Perth residents to submit their name ideas, and say, in a few words why they think it’s a great name.

The chosen name for the whale will be included in its new museum display.

For more than 120 years the 24-metre long whale called the WA Museum home.

The WA Museum’s specimen washed ashore in 1898, and remained at the mouth of the Vasse River (near Busselton) for three years before it was ready to be transported to Perth for display.

Name submissions open from August 2, 2018, until September 6, 2018.

Find out more about the blue whale via the museum’s fact sheet or its online article.
