OPERA fans can get a rare up-close look at Tony-winning designer Roger Kirk’s costumes from upcoming show The Cunning Little Vixen.
To be performed by the West Australian Opera in April at His Majesty’s Theatre, the show reflects on the nature of life, the cycle of birth and death, and the connection between the world of humans and animals.
Tackling dual roles of Parson and Badger, Paull-Anthony Keightley, from North Perth, said there would be plenty of costumes made with “elaborate workmanship” on display on stage and in the exhibition.

READ NOW“(The show is) is a take on humanity and how we interact with nature,” he said.
“The production was built for the Victorian Opera and the animal costume designs are colourful, bright and elaborate to differentiate them from the human costumes.
“Roger Kirk has designed some wild things in his career.”
He described his Badger costume as being a velvet floor jacket with a grey fur collar, while his Parson costume style was “stock standard priest outfit”.
Keightley said audiences don’t usually get a chance to see costumes so close.
“Not a lot of Opera deals with animals so I think this is a great opportunity to get an exclusive look and highlight the work by Roger Kirk,” he said.
The Cunning Little Vixen costume exhibition will be at Enex shopping centre until the end of March.
