UPDATE: A 34-year-old man has been charged with lighting a fire at the Perth Train Station this morning.

The man was charged with criminal damage, burglary and destruction of property.

He was refused bail and will appear in Perth Magistrates Court tomorrow.

11am: THE main entrance to Perth train station remains closed to commuters arriving in the city this morning as the arson squad investigates an overnight fire that has gutted the station’s main information hub.

Public Transport Authority workers who normally work inside the information centre have been forced outside near Wellington Street to redirect train users.

Commuters arriving at Perth noticed strong aromas associated with an electrical fire and a fenced off access way to Wellington Street.
