Perth: Urgent call for Christmas food donations to match ‘unprecedented’ demand

THE demand for food from families and individuals doing it tough this Christmas is unprecedented, according to UnitingCare West.

The agency’s Inner City Connection Hub on Aberdeen Street has put out an urgent call for public support.

“We’re doing our best to prepare enough hampers to meet all the requests coming in, but we’re in danger of falling short,” centre manager Jane Hulands said.

“We’re urging the Perth community to help us reach out to people experiencing hardship, to put food on tables, presents under trees and above all else, give people a sense of belonging, hope and purpose this Christmas.”

Ms Hulands said donations of pantry food and special Christmas items would be most welcomed, including long-life milk and custard, tinned ham, Christmas puddings, fruit mince pies, biscuits, tuna, pasta, rice, muesli bars and juice.

Food donations can be delivered to UnitingCare West at 5/5 Aberdeen Street, Perth or donated online at unitingcarewest.org.au.
