The City of Vincent approved a concept plan for the piazza at its meeting last Tuesday.
The construction cost estimate for the concept design is $288,223, which is $162,103 more than Vincents existing construction budget.
As a result, the council will list an additional $165,000 in the draft 2015-16 budget for the project.
A temporary piazza space was set up at the corner of Mary Street and Beaufort Street in July and August last year for two weeks.
During the community consultation period, 302 submissions were received from the community with 87 per cent in support.
Councillor Emma Cole said she was happy to support concept number one.
I think its really important that Beaufort Street has a meeting place, Cr Cole said.
Mayor John Carey said Vincent was consistently making an effort to make its town centres more active.
When the piazza first came to council Mr Carey said he didnt support it, but had changed his mind since and was happy to support the first concept design.
This was the most engaging community consultation this council has ever done, he said.
The design of the piazza will include two large trees, a small grassed area and a canopy above the entrance. According to a council report, it will be a functional and lasting urban space.
