Police charge man after two-year-old locked in car during 32-degree day

POLICE allege the relative of a two-year-old boy locked him in a car for 40 minutes in 32-degree heat while he went shopping on October 11.

Members of the public called police to Terrace Road, East Perth at 4.05pm after seeing the boy in distress with no parents or guardians nearby.

Traffic Enforcement Group officers forced entry to the car and gave the boy water before St John Ambulance paramedics took him to Princess Margaret Hospital as a precaution.

A 32-year-old Bassendean man was charged with ‘being a person in care of a child and leaving the child in a car without supervision likely to cause distress’.

He is due to appear in Perth Magistrates Court on November 10.
