Police charge man after alleged CBD stabbing

POLICE have charged a 46-year-old man after an alleged stabbing in the Perth CBD last night.

About 7.40pm police allege they found a man on Hay Street, near Barrack Street, who told them he had just stabbed a man.

Police found the injured man on Hay Street near Shafto Lane.

The man, a 50-year-old from Perth, had suffered several wounds, and St John Ambulance took him to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital where he is in a serious but stable condition.

While police were at the crime scene, it will be further alleged another man told police the same man had tried to steal money from him on Hay Street near Barrack Street.

The 24-year-old male was approached by the man while at an ATM.

The man alegedly pointed a knife at him and demanded money, but he left empty handed.

The 46-year-old man, from Victoria Park, was arrested and charged with intent to do grievous bodily harm but unlawfully wounding another and attempted armed robbery.

He will appear in Perth Magistrates Court this afternoon.
