Police dog Santos helps apprehend East Perth burglary suspect

Two men have been arrested in an East Perth apartment building thanks to some fast work from police dog Santos this morning.

About 12.20am, police were called to a complex on Adelaide Terrace after receiving information two men had forced their way into the building’s car park.

A canine unit attended the scene, and Santos was taken into the building to try and locate the men.

Two men were found in a stairwell, and ran when challenged by Santos’ handler.

Santos was deployed, and caught one of the offenders by the hip. The man was subsequently arrested.

Another police unit arrived and conducted a search of a nearby apartment complex, where they found the second man – now dressed only in his underwear.

The man’s clothes were found throughout the complex.

A 30-year-old man from East Perth – the one detained by Santos – has been charged with breach of bail, trespass, burglary, and stealing.

He was refused bail and is due to appear in Perth Magistrates Court today.

The second man, a 29-year-old from Kingsley, remains in custody.
