Cyclone Veronica weakening but still dangerous

Other reports have since come out of two more alleged needle-stick victims over the weekend.

Police minister Michelle Roberts said the alleged incidents were highly disturbing.

The Friday night Northbridge incident is the only one that has been reported to police so far.

“All young people, especially young women, should be able to go out and enjoy a night out without the risk of this,” she said.

“Often the reporting of these incidents isn’t 100 per cent. Often people have had a few drinks and they’re embarrassed to come forward, but they shouldn’t be. If you think something like this has happened, you should definitely come forward.”

Ms Roberts said police were contacting hospitals to find out if there was a spate of occurrences.

Universal Bar co-owner Trevor Candido said staff had helped the woman as much as possible and the alleged incident was being taken very seriously, with CCTV footage provided to police.

“We’re assisting police with the investigation, it’s ongoing,” he said.
