Radiothon fundraiser vital to broadcaster’s future

During August, RTRFM is running its annual 10-day fundraising drive Radiothon.

General manager Jason Cleary said without the drive, which provides about 30 per cent of the broadcaster's income for the year, the station would come to a standstill.

"But outside of the financial need, it is just a fantastic time of the year where everyone at the station can celebrate their contribution and listeners get to really get involved and excited about what RTRFM provides," Mr Cleary said.

"With all the options for how people access music now it is even more important than ever to support something created locally.

"It has been a tough year economically for everyone but I hope people see the worth of putting some of their hard earned dollars towards this station."

Mr Cleary said any contribution counted and would help get the station closer to their goal.

"If you have never listened in before or never subscribed before, make this the year you dig deep and help keep a valuable community asset going," he said.

"Listeners power the station and we give out love all year… August is when we ask for a little back from you.

"Never take independent media for granted, it is getting harder and harder to find and you have a valuable independent organisation right here in your back yard that needs your support."

RTRFM's Radiothon Party on Saturday kicked off the first weekend of Radiothon with 23 live acts and DJs across five Northbridge venues.

Listeners who subscribe or donate to RTRFM during Radiothon will be automatically entered into a draw to win major, as well as daily prize packages and spot prizes.

The fundraising drive will continue until on Sunday, August 23.
