GENEROUS West Australians have donated a record 30,943 meals and 11,689 gifts as part of Hawaiian’s Giving Box Appeal.

The sixth annual appeal helped Foodbank WA and Anglicare WA support local families struggling at Christmas.

Gold giving boxes were placed at seven Hawaiian shopping centres, several office buildings and 16 primary schools, allowing the community to donate non-perishables or cash.

“We have been overwhelmed with the way Western Australians have participated in this initiative and made the biggest contribution to date,” Hawaiian chief executive Russell Gibbs said.

Foodbank WA chief executive Greg Hebble said the donations this Christmas period could not have come at a better time because the charity’s food supply was the lowest it’s ever been.
