Ruthless look at companies

‘It’s basically about heaven and hell being huge corporations in direct competition with each other,’ she said.

Ms Krogdahl said the main character Ruth found herself employed by one of the companies as a human relations manager in charge of hiring and firing.

But unlike the business world where terminating employments end in people losing their jobs, Ruth’s role takes on more significance.

‘She is a bit of a hardnose HR manager, pretty cold and calculating. She ends up having to do a bit more than firing people,’ Ms Krogdahl said.

The IT project manager said the inspiration for her novel came from a vivid dream.

‘I worked for an oil and gas company for a lot of years and that experience was definitely an inspiration for one of the companies,’ she said.

Ms Krogdahl said she wrote most of the book at a nearby cafe, taking time out of the house each weekend to dedicate to her passion.
