Scaffidi and Harley in two-horse race for mayor

LORD Mayor Lisa Scaffidi announced last night she would nominate for a third term heading the Perth City Council.

After announcing her nomination on a website on Tuesday, Ms Scaffidi will defend her seat from Councillor Reece Harley, who said it would be a “David and Goliath battle” with the incumbent.

Mr Harley (28) from West Perth announced his campaign in August.

Ms Scaffidi said colleagues and stakeholders “strongly encouraged” her to run for another term and Perth Council were in the middle of organisation reform.

“In seeking to renew my contract with the people of Perth I know how well we are doing in delivering real outcomes for residents and businesses like no other Council has in the history of the City of Perth,” she said.

In 2011, Ms Scaffidi won the mayoral election with 2768 votes, edging out candidate Anne Bontempo by 1,222.
