Nine Network named as new Perth Skyworks broadcaster

AFTER 22 years, Seven Network will no longer broadcast the Australia Day Skyworks, with the 2019 tender awarded to Channel 9.

City of Perth Commissioners decided this week to go with the opposition channel after an assessment of both pitches.

Channel 10 did not pitch.

Despite the Seven Network providing a “suitable proposal of high value” that the panel deemed “impressive”, it included “some minor uncertainties with several inclusions not guaranteed or clear”.

Specifics are confined to confidential documents.

The Seven Network’s long-standing history with Skyworks was acknowledged.

It was established that “the experience demonstrated by Channel 9 Perth is adequate and supported by a stronger, significant proposal that best demonstrates value for money and increased opportunities for the City of Perth and its ratepayers”.

Chair Commissioner Eric Lumsden said staff evaluated the tenders as thoroughly as possible and he was satisfied with the recommendation.
