MORE than 20 people have been charged after an operation targeting the supply of prohibited drugs in the Perth and Northbridge entertainment areas, police announced today.

Police have seized $23,000, 2.8kg of MDMA and 1kg of cannabis and various other drugs including methylamphetamine, cocaine, LSD and psylocibin mushrooms from licensed venues.

Operation Observant started in January this year and resulted in 26 people aged between 18 and 28 charged with a total of 103 offences.

Perth District Superintendent Peter Hatch said the alleged acceptance and consistent use of prohibited substances within these venues were concerning.

“Licensed venues are where members of the community go to socialise, particularly young adults,” he said.

“To people thinking of attempting this sort of criminal behaviour, if you are involved in dealing drugs within our entertainment precincts, you will be caught and could be subject to punishment.

“This includes banning from licensed premises, seizure of assets and ultimately, extended lengths of prison time.”

Operation Observant followed similar operations, including Evolve in 2018 and Inception in 2017.

Anyone with information on the supply of prohibited drugs in licensed venues can report anonymously to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at www.crimestopperswa.com.au.
