ABOUT 25,000 homes were without power as a cold front swept across the metro area on Thursday.

Hail was reported in Baldivis and the forecast is for more storms as the day progresses.

There is also a strong wind warning in place for Perth local waters and the Perth coast.

It is believed a lightning strike cause the power outage.

About 12,000 homes remain without power.

And it looks as though Perth will have a wet start to winter, with 6-20mm of rain forecast for next Tuesday and 4-15mm set for next Wednesday as another cold front hits the city.
