Storm, heavy rains looking more likely for Perth this weekend

AS the weekend approaches, the odds of a storm and record rainfall are increasing.

Perth’s average January rainfall is 16.7mm, but the Bureau of Meteorology said there’s a chance as much as 30mm could fall on Sunday alone.

The Bureau said there’s now a 70 per cent chance of rain on Sunday, with the chance of a thunderstorm, up from a 40 per cent chance in the forecast issued yesterday.

And it said between four and 30mm of rain could fall.

The maximum temperature on Sunday is tipped to be 34 degrees, down from a sweltering 37 on Saturday.

The rain is expected to continue into Monday too, with a 70 per cent chance of rain and as much as 20mm predicted.

Wet conditions are also predicted for Tuesday, with as much as 6mm expected.
